Excerpt:

A human, a vampire and a werewolf walked into a bar. Sounds like the start of a bad joke. I can assure you it isn’t. And telling you that, actually, the human and the vampire walked into the bar together, and found the werewolf already there, probably doesn’t make it sound any better. Well tough, because that’s the way it went down.

Ace and I met at a Halloween fancy dress party. I know, I know—cliché of clichés. And yes, he was dressed as a vampire—Albeit a horrendously exaggerated one—all slicked-back hair, über pale skin and visible fangs. In real life, he actually looks no different to you or I. Okay, he is a bit pale. But at the time, I’d laughed at him and asked if he thought vampires weren’t a bit overdone—it was when Twilight was at the height of its popularity—all angsty teens and stalkerish behavior.

He’d laughed right back, a joyous, melodious sound that had heat pooling in my groin—then as suddenly as it had arrived, his mirth disappeared. Then he’d said, “Overdone or not, we’re here to stay. And I don’t fucking sparkle.”

My heart had been pounding, and my mouth had gone dry. Somehow, I’d known he wasn’t joking. And, although my conscious brain had shut down, my subconscious had had my back, because I’d heard myself say, “Well, thank fuck for that, because I’ve never been a fan of glitter.”

He’d laughed again, the sound tugging at my very core. And—apologies for yet another cliché—we’ve been together ever since.

Several years later and we’re still as madly in love as ever, and still fucking like rabbits. Sex with a vampire is everything you’d expect it to be—energetic, powerful, finessed, mind-blowing and packed with stamina. Providing you can keep up, that is.

In addition to our unquenchable lust for each other, Ace and I have engaged in bondage, sex toys, spanking, anal, pegging—almost an A to Z of things to do in bed. Some we’ve tried and discarded, others have been a regular part of our sexual repertoire.

And yet, our latest adventure was the most exciting yet. You see, after mine and Ace’s initial meeting, I was given an almighty education in everything it meant to be a vampire. Myths were dispelled, other beliefs were confirmed—he definitely didn’t sparkle—and yet more things I’d never even thought of were seared into my brain.

So when Ace announced he had a friend who was a werewolf, I didn’t even bat an eyelid. It was the follow up information that surprised me.

“He wants to what?” The tone of my voice by the end of the sentence was so high that probably only dogs could hear me. And yet it was genuine surprise, rather than disapproval, that fuelled my reaction.

Raising his eyebrows, Ace gave me that sexy smirk that always gets my blood pounding through my veins and my pussy aching to be filled. “You heard me, Aneesa. My friend Barton would like to screw you. With me present, of course, and actively taking part.”

“A th-threesome?” I stumbled over the word—not because I was horrified. Quite the opposite, in fact. Being fucked by two hot guys at once had long been on my sexual bucket list—a list that, since meeting Ace, had had items checked off it at a rate of knots. I was going to have to start thinking of some more shit to put on it. I was way too young to have completed my bucket list—sexual or not—for Christ’s sake!

Out Now – Wild After Dark Anthology by Various Authors #erotica #menage #paranormal

Hi everyone,

Hot on the heels of my release earlier this month, Native Tongue, I’m delighted to announce I also have a story out in an anthology from Totally Bound Publishing. Here’s the skinny:

wildafterdarkBeyond the Poison Chalice by Helena Maeve

Coveting the enemy is simply to die for.

Claudia Salizar has given blood, sweat and tears to the tenuous armistice between the factions that inhabit St. Louis. She rules the north side with an iron fist, striving to keep the peace between vampires, werewolves and humans no matter the cost. Stumbling across two mysterious intruders who may jeopardize everything she’s worked for is no small inconvenience.

The pair need safe passage out of the vampire quarter and they’re willing to negotiate. Claudia is immediately drawn to Silver, a human with an unusually delectable scent whose tantalizing touch brings her to the height of ecstasy. His taciturn companion is harder to crack, but Claudia has met her fair share of werewolves and giving herself to Lucan awakens desires she has too long suppressed.

Justice is soon the furthest thing from Claudia’s mind, but colluding with outsiders can have unforeseen ramifications. It’s not long before running Silver and Lucan out of town seems like the only sensible option. Time for Claudia to decide what she values more: her hard-won reputation or the two men in her bed?

Steal Your Soul Away by Elizabeth Coldwell

In Brighton, the undead come alive when the sun goes down. Can a vampire and a werewolf put their differences aside and enjoy the ultimate threesome?

Angelique is not like other burlesque dancers. For one thing, she’s been a vampire for over two hundred years. Her rule has always been ‘look but don’t touch’, until she meets hot, young sculptor Tom. But she’s also attracted to his friend, Lucas, even though she knows him to be a lycan–the last creature she’d ever want to get involved with. Desire and distrust mix in an explosive combination as Angelique is drawn closer to both Tom and Lucas.

Tom Lawless is a star on the rise about to exhibit his sculptures at Cities after Dark show at Brighton Pavilion. When he sees beautiful dancer Angelique, it’s lust at first sight and his need for her doesn’t fade, even when he learns she’s one of the undead. If only he could make her realize his best friend, Lucas, is a cool guy and not a threat, their twosome could become a very happy threesome.

Lucas Canning has secrets he doesn’t feel comfortable sharing. Just how do you tell your closest friend that you sometimes need to shift into wolf form? And now that friend is dating a gorgeous woman vamp. Lucas is crazy about Angelique but can’t get involved with her without hurting Tom. Perhaps the night of the exhibition will give him a chance to show her he’s not the bad guy in all this and finally give his animal passion free rein. Because everything gets a little wild when the sun goes down…

Reader Advisory: This book contains scenes of voyerism.

Taken in by Wendi Zwaduk

Kitty longs to leave the Store Front and the total darkness of the earth. The one bright spot in her day is the visit from Gale and Vic. She loves the two Supernatural men, even if she can’t voice the words. Do they return her affections on a deeper level or is she just a pawn to them? She’s not sure, but she’s willing to risk her heart and get wild after dark in order to find out.

Reader Advisory: This book contains scenes of anal sex.

Intervention by Aurelia T. Evans

It starts as an intervention for a friend. It ends in bloodshed, lust, betrayal and death, as love often does after dark.
When Emily’s husband, Land, calls her to come down to the warehouse district at sunset, she thinks it’s just another job for their para-extermination company. However, he tells her that he’s finally caught Matt, the third member of their team, who was bitten by a werewolf a few weeks ago.

Emily races to the warehouse. She and Land reassure Matt that they’ll give him all the help he needs and that he doesn’t need to run away. After all, they’re not strangers to the supernatural.

What she finds, however, is Matt wild in his cage, a creepy vampire duct-taped to a pipe, Land covered in blood from a bite mark on his neck—and no easy answers. Will their love vanquish all?

Reader Advisory: This book contains scenes of horror, gore and death.

Darker Nights by Nan Comargue

Lawyer Delia Darker’s world becomes very dark when two new clients turn out to be immortal vampires – and her long-time fantasy.

Delia Darker works at her family’s law firm serving vampires and other immortals, but she has long ago gotten over her own lust for vampire males after being hurt and abandoned by one. When her colleague forces her to take over a meeting with two of his clients, she’s suddenly thrown into the nighttime world of music, partying and incredible sex. How can she resist spending the night with Mark Lyons and Caleb Jennings?

Caleb has been searching for him and Mark’s one true mate, the ideal match prophesized for vampires. However, Mark is skeptical. Immortality just doesn’t seem to go with a committed long-term relationship. It doesn’t matter how attractive Delia is, he just doesn’t think it’s going to work—but he’s willing to give it a try for his best friend’s sake.

When that first wild night turns into a series of sexy encounters, Delia starts worrying that she might be falling for Mark and Caleb—and that certainly isn’t the plan. She isn’t sure she wants to become a vampire. Sleeping with two men might be a crazy experiment that’s all right for a little while, but the two males couldn’t want more than that, could they?

My NaNoWriMo Novel – Pack of Lies by Lucy Felthouse (@cw1985) #werewolf #paranormal #erotic #romance

Hi everyone,

As NaNoWriMo approaches once again, I thought it’d be a good time to talk about my NaNoWriMo project for last year (it’s a paranormal, so it’s doubly topical with Halloween almost upon us). So here goes…

If you’d have said to me two years ago—maybe even just a year ago—that I would “win” NaNoWriMo, I’d have laughed at you. For those of you that don’t know, NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month, is a yearly challenge which takes place in November. Writers sign up via the website and challenge themselves to write 50,000 words in a month—in order words, a novel. Or at least a good chunk of one.

I’m not a fast writer, but then nor am I a slow one. I sit comfortably somewhere in the middle. But for some reason, last year I decided I was going to give NaNoWriMo a go. I’d already done a ton of research for the novel I intended to work on next, all I needed to do was getting the planning done and I’d be ready to go. And so, having worked out that I’d have to write 2,500 per day for twenty days (I don’t work weekends, so I had to remove weekend days from the equation), I figured it was still achievable.

Come the 1st of November I was signed up, had everything planned out and once I opened that Word document, I quickly started to fill it with words. I’m a bit of a word count watcher when I write, anyway, so the only difference was, rather than simply updating the widget in my website’s sidebar, I would also update on the NaNoWriMo website. I started off really well, and was achieving my target each day. Of course, I dropped behind my “buddies” at weekends, but soon caught up again on weekdays.

I have to admit, it was addictive. Granted, I’d already done an awful lot of hard work before opening that Word document, but it didn’t mean the writing was easy, especially as it was the most complex piece of work I’d written to date. But somehow, come the 29th November (the 30th was a Saturday, and so the 29th was my finish date), I did it. I hopped over that 50,000 word mark, copied and pasted the text into the NaNoWriMo site to get it validated, and received my winner’s certificate and badge. It was a fantastic feeling—I’d done it!

However, the novel was far from finished. The challenge had really broken the back of it, but I knew I still had a long way to go. I didn’t stop writing, but I admit from the 50k mark until the end was a lot slower going because I didn’t have that urgency pushing me to write faster. Not to mention during November, I’d rejigged my days to make writing my priority.

Finally, in the New Year of 2014, I finished the book. It was almost twice the length it had been at the end of November—95,000 words. So personally, I still think I did pretty damn well to write it in that period of time, and I’m delighted to see it out there for people to read and hopefully enjoy. Sadly, personal circumstances dictate that I won’t be able to take part in NaNoWriMo this year, but hopefully I can do it again next year – it certainly spurred me on 🙂

The book has been incredibly well received so far, with lots of four and five star reviews—so if you’re a paranormal romance fan, I hope you’ll check it out!

Happy Reading,

Lucy x

packoflies01Excerpt:

As Matthew and Isaac Adams opened the front door to their house, the telephone started ringing. Matthew sighed. “Typical. No rest for the wicked. I’ll answer it, you go and get ready for work.”

Isaac nodded and headed off to do as his brother advised. Matthew, the older of the two, walked toward the ringing phone and snatched it off the hook. Then, remembering that the person on the other end of the line would have no idea what a rough night he’d just had, he made the effort to inject some politeness into his tone.

“Hello? Adams residence.” Isaac had told him time and time again that the last part about the residence was old-fashioned, that people didn’t say that anymore, but Matthew couldn’t seem to shake it.

“Hello, Matthew? It’s Richard.” The village vicar’s voice, even though he’d only spoken four words, sounded strained, almost panicked. “You boys just get back?”

“Yeah, a moment ago. Why, what’s up?”

“I, uh… I got a call. A dead sheep has been found up on the moor. Not just dead. Mutilated. Like a wild animal attack.”

An unpleasant feeling wormed its way under Matthew’s skin and his stomach flipped. “Oh?” He paused, then figured he had nothing to gain by not saying the next words he wanted to. “You don’t think it was us?”

The vicar’s gasp was instant, one of genuine surprise. “Lord, no! Absolutely not. I just phoned to let you know and I was wondering if you’d come up there with me and take a look. You and Isaac are probably more qualified than anyone else in the village to tell what did this.”

“Isaac has to work, he just went to get ready. But yes, I’ll come up. I’ll let my brother know where I’m going, then I’ll be straight over. Are you at the rectory?”

“Yes. Okay, I’ll see you soon. Thanks, Matthew. Bye.”

“Goodbye.”

Matthew hung up the phone with another sigh. The horrible feeling that had crept under his skin and taken over his gut seemed as if it was there to stay, and it was never a good sign. The vicar’s news was surprising, yes, but he also had an inkling that it was going to spell trouble, or at the very least inconvenience, for him and his brother.

Pulling in a deep breath in an attempt to calm his jangling nerves, Matthew walked upstairs and toward his brother’s bedroom. The door was closed. He knocked. “You decent?”

“Yeah,” Isaac replied, “close enough.”

Stepping into the room, Matthew looked at his brother. He was half-dressed, ready for his shift at the doctor’s surgery, where he was a general practitioner. “Sorry to interrupt, mate, but that was Richard on the phone. They’ve found a mutilated sheep up on the moor, and he’s asked me to go with him to check it out.”

Isaac paused with one arm pushed into his shirtsleeve. “He doesn’t think—”

Matthew cut him off. “No. He was quite adamant about that. He just thought we’d be able to help figure out what did it. I explained that you’ve got to go to work, though. I’m going to head across there now and go up with him.”

“I could phone in, let them know I’ll be late.”

Matthew held up his hand. “There’s no need, brother. Relax. Just go to work and help the sick people. I’ll let you know what—if anything—I find out.”

Opening his mouth, then closing it again, Isaac seemed to have thought better of whatever he was going to say. He continued to dress. “All right, I will. But make sure you let me know what happens. Send me a text or something, and I’ll phone you as soon as I have a gap in between patients.”

Matthew grimaced. He hated texting. Hated mobile phones, actually. Technology was one of the things he disliked most about modern-day life, though he realized it was a necessary evil. It solved as many problems for him and his brother as it created, so he dealt with it as best he could. Fortunately, Isaac had always had an affinity with computers and phones, so he tutored his older brother.

“Yeah, all right. I’d better go and find my phone first then, eh?”

Smirking at his brother’s rolled eyes, he left the room and headed for his own bedroom, where he thought he’d left the device the previous night, before he and Isaac had headed for the caves. Immediately spotting the mobile phone—which Isaac often made a point of telling him was akin to a brick—he grabbed it and stuffed it into his pocket and made his way downstairs.

Retrieving his keys from the hook by the front door, he called up to his brother. “I’m going now, Isaac. I’ll see you after my shift at the pub. I’m working until closing time.”

“Okay. Don’t forget to keep me posted!”

“I won’t.” As if he could forget. The dead sheep was going to be a big thing, he just knew it. The vicar might not think he and his brother had anything to do with it, but some of the other villagers might. When there was no proof either way, just his and Isaac’s word, it was understandable, really. Since he and his brother changed into wolves every full moon, it was a natural conclusion to draw. Particularly since normal wolves had been extinct in England for over five hundred years.

A Terrifying New Writing Process by Lucy Felthouse (@cw1985) #nanowrimo #amwriting

Hi everyone,

Determined not to be a one novel wonder (well, one and a half, if you count my co-authored novel), I signed up for NaNoWriMo last November. Knowing my crazy brain the way I do, I figured if I signed up for an actual challenge, something that I could fail, then I’d be much more likely to see it through. I don’t work weekends, so that took my month straight down to twenty days, but the maths told me it was 2,500 words a day, every week day, for a month. It was perfectly doable.

crest-bda7b7a6e1b57bb9fb8ce9772b8faafbNormally, my writing takes a back seat to everything else I do. I run my own business, Writer Marketing Services, which must take priority. I manage to squeeze my writing and self-promotion in around that, as well as the editing work I do. Somehow it works.

But in November, that all had to change. I couldn’t get through my to-do list and hope there was time and energy enough at the end of it to write. If I did that, some days I wouldn’t get any word count in, or a very low word count. Instead, urgent emails got answered and everything else took a back seat (I had, of course, let those that needed to know what was going on) until my 2.5k words were finished. This meant writing in the morning – something else I very rarely do, as I’m usually not awake until lunchtime. Once they were complete, I could get on with everything else.

It was weird, scary and damn challenging, but at the end of the month (a few days beforehand, actually), I had my completed 50k. This wasn’t the completed novel, though. Far from it. But I had, as they say, broken the back of it. And once I was that far into a project, there was no way I wasn’t going to see it through to the end. That and I was addicted to the characters, telling their story, and crafting a satisfactory ending. So I reverted back to my previous writing process (i.e. squeezing it in whenever possible) and powered through into the New Year, and ended up with a 90k+ manuscript. Wow.

And, even more excitingly, that manuscript will now see the light of day. The now-titled Pack of Lies (previously The Persecution of the Wolves) just released with Ellora’s Cave. Here’s the skinny:

New Novel Coming from Lucy Felthouse – Pack of Lies

Hi everyone,

I’m very excited to announce that I have a release date for my next novel. Pack of Lies, my werewolf novel, is coming out with Ellora’s Cave on the 6th August!

I don’t have a cover at the time of writing this post, but here’s the blurb:

Werewolf brothers Matthew and Isaac have lived in the peaceful village of Eyam all their lives. The villagers know what happens every full moon, and are happy to keep their secret. But their privacy comes at a cost—neither brother has taken a lover in almost four hundred years.

Then at the full moon, a sheep is slaughtered on Eyam Moor, by what could only be an animal. A large, vicious animal. Even the brothers’ staunchest supporters begin to have their doubts. Meanwhile Isaac is smitten by a handsome newcomer to the village, while a vivacious visitor is happy to offer Matthew her all.

As they indulge their lust, they must clear their names and convince their neighbours that they aren’t also letting their baser instincts out to play.

Inside Scoop:  This book contains sizzling scenes of both M/M and M/F sex.

I’m very excited to have another full-length novel coming out. It’s very different to my previous one, Stately Pleasures, not only because it’s a paranormal, but because it’s more of a thriller than a romance. But don’t worry, there’s plenty of romance and hot sex in there, too!

You can add it to your Goodreads shelves here: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22756241-pack-of-lies

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to happy dance around the room!

Happy Reading,

Lucy x

Sexy Characters

by Lucy Felthouse

I’m a sucker for a sexy character. Be it in a book, film, TV show, whatever. This is why I’m such a fan of Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries, Grimm, Sleepy Hollow, True Blood, Arrow, X-Men, The Avengers, Sherlock, too many books to mention… you get the picture.

sherlockbbcI don’t have a type, either, apparently. Some of the characters I like are tall, others short (okay, mainly tall). Short hair, long hair, blue eyes, green eyes, brown eyes. Big nose, small nose. Wicked cheekbones (yeah, okay, I have one in particular in mind here). For me, it’s not just about the looks – it’s about attitude. There’s something about each of those characters that floats my boat, though I can’t always put my finger on it.

So when it came down to writing my first solo novel, Stately Pleasures, I had a couple of my favourite celebrity crushes in mind. I figured if I could visualise the sexy men in my book and found them attractive, then my female lead was bound to fancy the pants off them. It worked – Alice was attracted to Jeremy Davenport (who has an uncanny resemblance to Jeremy Renner) pretty much as soon as she met him. Her attraction to Ethan Hayes (looks rather like Jared Padalecki) wasn’t quite so instantaneous, but when it hit Alice, it hit her hard.

Naturally, it wasn’t enough for me and my lead female character to fancy the men. Readers had to like them, too. And fortunately, the feedback and reviews I’ve had so far indicate that they do – hurrah! Probably my favourite comment so far is that I had basically written one woman’s fantasy. Which she then followed up by saying as soon as she finished the book, her boyfriend grabbed it and was reading it instead of playing on his Playstation! What better compliment is there?!

For a long time, I’ve had someone visualised for my male characters as I write them. Someone I find hot, and it’s always worked for me. I don’t necessarily describe them down to the last millimetre, which is okay, as that’s when you run the risk of turning someone off. Their personalities just seem to come naturally as I write and again, so far I seem to be doing okay with capturing sexy characters with sexy, attractive attitudes.

I know I’ll never please everyone – it’s impossible. But if I can please myself, then finish a book and send it out into the world, then that’s half the battle over. A hot fictional guy is no good if he only ever lives on a writer’s computer, is he?

Happy Reading!

Stately PleasuresAlice Brown has just landed her dream job. Property manager at Davenport Manor, a British stately home. It’s only a nine-month contract to cover maternity leave, but it’s the boost up the career ladder she so desperately needs.

Unfortunately, things don’t get off to the best start, when Alice finds her boss, Jeremy Davenport, in a compromising position. Far from being embarrassed by what’s happened, Jeremy turns things around on Alice and makes her out to be the one in the wrong. So when he and his best friend and head of security, Ethan Hayes, then throw an ultimatum at her, she’s so stunned and confused that she goes along with their indecent proposal.

When the dust settles and Alice has time to think about things, though, she realises that perhaps it isn’t such a bad thing. There are worse things she could be doing to advance her career, after all.

Alpha’s Claim: Manlove Edition is Here!

Hi everyone,

I’m delighted to be part of the Alpha’s Claim: Manlove Edition anthology, a shifter erotic romance, which releases with Evernight Publishing today. I’m delighted to be nestling between the digital pages with Tyler Robbins, Avril Ashton, Pelaam, Nikka Michaels, JC Holly, Karly Germain, Eileen Griffin, Tamsin Baker and Giselle Renarde.

Alpha's Claim Manlove EditionHere’s the blurb:

Strength. Power. Domination.

The shifters in our Alpha’s Claim: Manlove Edition anthology have one thing in common—they won’t take “no” for an answer. Whether they lead packs of their own, or whether they walk a solitary path, these alphas won’t let anyone stop them from claiming their men.

Lose yourself in these ten sinfully delicious love stories. After all, who could deny an Alpha’s claim?

And here’s a snippet from my story, Out in the Cold:

Completing his stretches, Kane Wimborne grabbed his keys and left the house, locking the door behind him and pocketing the keys. Jogging down the driveway of his large mansion, he paused at a keypad to punch in the code that would open the gates and allow him off the property.

He’d barely gotten through the gates when he saw something that made him stop dead. A human-shaped bundle was lying next to the wall on his left. Instinctively, his hand went to his pocket to check if his phone was there. Yes, he could phone for help if it was needed.

Cautiously, he approached the shape, with many possibilities running through his head. It could be a homeless person or a drunk who had simply been looking for a sheltered place to sleep. It could be someone who was injured. Or he could be about to step onto a crime scene. Conscious of this last point, he called out before getting any closer—he didn’t want to inadvertently mar any evidence, should that last be correct.

“Hey. You all right?” He felt stupid saying the words, because someone lying next to a wall first thing in the morning couldn’t be classified as all right, for whatever reason they were there.

As there was no response, he edged a little closer and was about to shout again when a weird sensation overtook him. A sensation that he hadn’t felt in a very long time—the one that told him another shifter was nearby.

He’d already been on edge, but now he hurriedly looked around him, confident that even in the dull morning light his superior vision would immediately highlight anything out of place. There was nothing. Except for the fellow shifter who was on the ground in front of him, obviously.

It was clear the wall-hugger was a shifter, given that all of Kane’s senses told him there was no one else around. There rarely was at 5:30 in the morning. Now Kane realized what a good thing this was—he didn’t want any witnesses, just in case any random shifting took place. It was entirely possible—it was a natural response to threats, especially if one was injured.

And if he or she wasn’t injured, why in the hell were they here?

No longer bothered about contaminating a crime scene—he wouldn’t be calling the authorities on another of his kind, whoever they were—Kane crouched down beside the prone figure and searched for its neck, then its pulse. He found both, which was a relief, and at the same time he’d ascertained that the “it” was in fact a man. The stubble on the neck and jaw gave it away. It was either that or a bearded lady had absconded from the local circus.

After calling out a couple more times, Kane decided that the softly-softly approach was clearly not going to work. Checking that the two of them were still alone—what he was about to do could easily stir the guy into changing—he grabbed the man’s shoulders and shook him, hard, then slapped his face for good measure.

It took a few seconds, but finally, the man came round. Groaning, his hand came up to his face, where Kane had hit him. Then his other hand moved to the other side. As the guy attempted to sit up, Kane reached out to help him, then gasped.

He should not have slapped his face. All he’d done was add additional pain to an already affected area. A badly abused area, in fact. The other shifter looked like he’d taken a serious beating, or fallen from the top of a very tall tree.

“Christ,” Kane said, still supporting the man’s back, so he didn’t flop back down onto the pavement. “What the hell happened to you?”

The House of Erotica Witching Hour Anthology

Hi everyone,

hoewitchinghourIt’s the run up to Halloween so I’m sure everyone is inundated with skeletons, witches, pumpkins and all manner of spooky stuff. So I thought I’d wade in with something of my own.

House of Erotica just published their Witching Hour anthology, which contains thirteen spooky stories, including mine, A Party to Remember.

Here’s the blurb:

Inside you will find thirteen spooky erotic stories. From shapeshifters to wild nights with the dead there’s a theme to suit everyone.

Stories from Victoria Blisse, Isabel Holley, Nicky Raven, Heather Lin, Vanessa de Sade, Gemma Parkes, Tilly Hunter, Lucy Felthouse, Elizabeth Black, Nephylim, Annabeth Leong and Daddy X.

And here’s an excerpt from my story:

I slicked on a last coat of scarlet lipstick, blotted, and grinned at myself in the mirror. I looked every inch the vamp; tight black corset, leather pants and killer spike-heeled boots. My pale face, smoky eye makeup and slutty lip color completed the effect. I was ready. This was going to be a Halloween to remember.

I dug out the party invitation to double check where I was going and headed off. When I got there, I managed to find a space on the street to park my car, then made for the venue across the road. On closer inspection, I was impressed. I mean, I knew this party was going to be something special, but I was completely blown away. These people had seriously gone to town.

People can decorate all they want to make their houses look spooky and creep out little kids (and some big ones), but some places are so sweet that they just don’t achieve the scary factor. This place, however, needn’t have bothered doing a single thing.

Set back from the road, it was necessary to walk down a hedge lined path to get to the door. Once there, the house’s presence was pretty intense. Dark and looming, it was gothic at its best. It was on three stories, with turrets and balconies and various spiky bits. Add to that the maniacally leering pumpkins, hanging skeletons and cobwebs, and the result was something that could have been the haunted house in any theme park. I liked it.

At the door, I was spoilt for choice. I couldn’t decide whether to pull the bell chain or use the gargoyle door-knocker. With my love of all things grotesque, I was certainly getting the goodies that evening.

Deciding on the bell chain, I sniggered into my hand as it made a noise so loud and theatrical that it was like something out of a horror movie.

I soon stopped laughing when the door opened. Stood there was the hottest guy I’d ever laid eyes on. He had shoulder length brown hair, stylishly tousled. His eyes were a rich brown color, set in a face as pale as my own. He smiled, his lush lips curling up to reveal startlingly white teeth with rather pointed canines.

“Hello,” he said, stepping back to allow me entrance as I showed him my invite, “please come in. Normally I’d offer to take your coat, but you don’t appear to be wearing one.”

He turned to face me after closing the door. “I left it in the car. I’m only parked across the street.”

“I see,” he said, and I stood awkwardly before him, as he appeared to be appraising me. His eyes raked down my body, taking in my attire. His gaze strayed a little longer on my throat, no doubt admiring the beautiful choker I was wearing; black leather with a jewel-encrusted cross in the middle.

“You look good enough to eat, my dear,” he announced once he’d finished studying me. “Forgive me. Your beauty is such that it has made me forget my manners.”

He held out his hand. “I am Dracula.”

I felt the corners of my mouth twitching, and I bit the inside of my cheek to keep from laughing. Sure you are, buddy, I thought. Oh well, for one night of the year you get to be anybody you want. It was just a bit of harmless fun. Who was I to deny him?

“I’m Tawny,” I replied, shaking his hand. It was cold. Of course it was. The guy probably kept running to the kitchen to stick his hands in the deep freeze to keep up the pretence. He was taking his vampire costume very seriously. Oh well, hopefully he’d loosen up after a few drinks.

“It is wonderful to meet you,” he said, bringing my hand to his lips. He lingered there a little too long, and I resisted the temptation to pull away. He had looks, style and manners. The perfect gentleman. But he was sending shivers up my spine, and not in a good way. The way he was adopting a posh European accent was freaking me out, too. It sounded so real that he must have been practicing for weeks before the party, just so he could sound like his paranormal idol.

“Okay, buddy,” I sighed, bored of the pretence now, “I’m gonna go and get a drink. Catch you later.”

“I hope to see you later, my dear,” he said, with a nod and a bow.
