Apologies, new release, and other news! ~ @LaynaPimentel

It’s been some time since I last posted and I’m dreadfully sorry. Shit seems to happen in three’s and my life for the last year has been no exception. That said, I’m back and excited to share a number of things with you over the next few months.

Shadowed By Sin is a Gothic romance around 42k and so full of twists and turns, I have no idea where the concept came for it. Here’s a bit of a teaser for you to chomp on:

The twists, diabolical turns and disturbing descriptions had me hooked and wanting more! I couldn’t put it down! ~ Goodreads review

Filled with emotional turmoil, danger, suspense, mystery, deceit, lies, scandal, murder and romance. What an awesome blend of romance with suspense, family turmoil and secrets. Not for the faint of heart… ~ My Book Addiction and More

Where I can usually figure out the intrigue element in most mysteries, I wasn’t exactly left guessing who the bad guy was, but I was pleasantly surprised to find out he had an accomplice! ~ Award winning author Nichole Severn

Every man has a price…

As Lord Benedict St. John and his fiancée prepare to marry, his family is blackmailed by a former acquaintance. Hoping to set things straight, he accepts an invitation to dine at the Blackmailer’s family estate.

But how many should die…

Estelle agrees to accompany Benedict, but nothing prepares her for the mysteries and bodies she stumbles across during her time at Hawthorne Hall.

Before the shocking truth is exposed?

Hawthorne Hall holds many secrets, but will Estelle and Benedict escape to see the day their union is blessed, or will they succumb to an untimely end?

Well, that’s it for me for this month. I’ll leave you with an excerpt from my brand new release, and hope you have an amazing Sunday.

~ * ~

“Pardon the intrusion, my lords. This just arrived for Master Benedict.”

The butler passed him an envelope with the identical wax seal from the note his father received earlier. Only this time, the letter was decorated with intricate designs.

“Thank you, Horace.”

“What is it? Who is it from?” his father asked quizzically.

“I don’t know, Father. I’ll have a look at it later. I’m rather late for a few appointments now. I will check in on you later this afternoon. Do tell Mother I will be asking Estelle to join us for dinner tonight.”

His father groaned yet again. While his parents approved of his desire to marry, they simply did not care for his selection of a wife. The aristocratic snobs that they were, they had expected him to marry an equal, or a lady that came with an extremely large dowry. Estelle was Baron Humphrey’s daughter, and while her dowry wasn’t that of an earl’s or viscount’s daughter, her purse strings and entitlements didn’t bother him in the least.

From the moment he saw her for the first time at the market, he’d been smitten with the petite and exotic beauty. He’d lifted her from the muddy street, and as her deep dark eyes settled on his, she’d bewitched him. Mind, it took several weeks for him to dissuade another potential suitor, not that the lad stood a chance. Estelle was one catch he would never give up, and now he had to find the perfect home for them, but where? She lived in town with her father and widowed aunt in a modest townhouse during the season, and after that, they resided in a country home with a full set of staff and several tenants to oversee. All of which he could match with his inheritance; but for Estelle everything had to be perfect. She deserved nothing but the world, and if he could give it to her, he would.

“Horace,” Benedict called out, reaching for his hat. “See that my carriage is ready post haste. I have to go to town and begin looking at properties.”

“Yes, my lord. Right away.” The butler disappeared around the corner, leaving Benedict alone in the foyer.

He desperately wanted to open the envelope but refused to do it so close to home. He didn’t want his father to worry, nor did he want the servants to speculate on what was the matter. He’d open the blasted thing and read it in the privacy of his carriage.

Darkness shrouded the street, as if evil lurked for its first victim of the day. He stepped in, and gave his driver directions to Mayfair. A quick scout of the area would give him an idea of where there might be some opportunities. His future countess deserved the best. After scouring some neighborhoods, he’d collect his lovely bride and return home for dinner.

A few minutes into the drive, he pulled out the letter and opened it.

Lord Benedict St. John,

You are formally invited to Hawthorne Hall as a guest of Lord George Cuthbert. Celebrations are expected to last a week, and we hope that you will stay for the duration. Several festivities, including a masque, will be held in honor of George’s return from the continent. We hope you will attend, and look forward to being introduced to your lovely bride-to-be.

Regards,

Lady Cuthbert, Countess of Hawthorne.

Nothing made sense. Why would Lord Cuthbert send a letter blackmailing his father, and then invite him and Estelle to attend a party at Hawthorne Hall? It had to be a ruse of sorts, but then again, he could use this as an opportunity to dig more into the situation with his father. Yet, was it wise to introduce Estelle to this particular crowd of society, especially when there were other sinister things being plotted? If anything happened to Estelle while she was in his protection, he would never forgive himself. Nevertheless, if he told her about his plan and what was happening, she might be willing to aid him in freeing his father from the devil’s clutches.

Hump Day thoughts, updates, and a huge shout out.

I love Hump Day, don’t you? It’s the middle of the week and that much closer to the weekend, and we all love weekends, right? 😀

I guess I’ll post a bit of an update with what’s going on in my world these days. BTW if you haven’t had an opportunity to check out the huge giveaway, we’re doing, just look to your right and see how fab the prize is. Pretty tempting isn’t it?

So I’ve been pretty much working on my edits for A Gift From Fate, which will be coming out in March. I’ll be sure to post a blurb and cover art, once it has come in and is approved.

I’ve also had Harlequin author Vicki Essex on my site, and she’s doing a giveaway of her latest release. That contest will end Saturday night, so be sure to stop by and say hi at: http://www.laynapimentel.com.

One final thought. For those who have followed me these last few years, then you know that I’ve participated weekly on Six Sentence Sunday. It was a weekly blog hop if you will, that was the brainchild of author Sara Brookes. I can’t even begin to tell you how much I learned by participating, and how many wonderful people I met through the site. Sadly, after this Sunday, SSS will end, and quite frankly, I don’t think anything could compare to the likes of it. A few have started, but I hate to say it, they simply aren’t the same. I commend Sara for all her hard work in maintaining the site, as well as the admins in how they assisted in keeping this regulated and moving. One doesn’t appreciate the amount of time and effort that went into making it possible unless you witnessed it. I kid you not, that hours upon hours was spent: fixing the code if the list didn’t show, verifying links for a variety of reasons, and most of all just to make sure things went smoothly for us the readers. So a huge thank you to Sara and the admins. I’ll miss ya, and wish you gals the best on your future endeavors. *sniff sniff*

Okay, so I better get going before I get all maudlin. I’ll be back again on January 30th, hopefully offering you my readers, a sneak peak into A Gift From Fate. Until then… arrivederci!

😉

Where in the world did 2012 go?

WOW! I seriously cannot be alone, in wondering where the year went. As we begin to say farewell to an unforgettable year for many reasons–personal, professional, and international news wise–I think the one thing we that makes us an incredible species, is how we continue to push ourselves forward.

2012 proved to be an extremely trying year for myself professionally and artistically. Right when I was ready to give up and running out of options of what to do next, the universe decided to grace me with a few opportunities. I’m grateful for having a patient family, who allow me the ‘alone’ time I need for writing. I’m over the moon, in having found a publisher who believes in what I do. And most of all, I’m forever indebted to the friends I’ve made along the way on this journey. The key to anything we do in life is never to give up. If you fail the first time, pick yourself up, and try again. I read a really interesting interview with everyone’s favorite cover model Jimmy Thomas, which kinda sorta inspired this post. Check it out here.

In 2013–so far–I am committed to bringing you my readers, the very best that I can give you. That’s not my only New Year’s resolution, but it’s one I thought you’d want to hear. Be sure to check out my debut release in March, A Gift From Fate, as well as Hardened Desire will also be out in April. While both are paranormal shorts, I assure you, I’m working on a very special and hot historical romance series for regency fans everywhere.

Do you have any resolutions? Quit smoking, run a marathon, go back to school? I’d love to hear from ya. And keep in mind, no resolution is too small, and every effort counts. So if one of your goals is to hit the gym six days a week, and you only make it four times, don’t beat yourself up. Shit happens for a reason, but if at least keep working on it, things are bound to work out.

-L
