Carnal Summer Pleasures: An Angel Payne Random List

It’s no naughty secret. I love Summer in just about every way, shape, and form–but one of the hugest reasons is that there’s now a perfectly legitimate excuse to sing my praises about all my sexy indulgences. Not that I save them for summertime, okay?–but now, everyone’s just more interested in hearing about them.

There’s no ascending or descending order here. I love them all! How many do you agree with? let me know in the Comments section and I’ll send you a signed paperback copy of my newest contribution to the Summer Indulgences pile: A WILDER KIND OF LOVE–THE WILD BOYS, BOOK 7 (Releases on June 16th–READ ABOUT IT HERE!)

junepost1TODRICK HALL’S YOUTUBE CHANNEL: Toddy Hall is a creative genius who is going to be discovered SOON by the world–and then all of you will say that I told you so here first. You want to really check out “The Wizard of Ahhhs” that he did with Pentatonix!

junepost2HOT SUMMER READS besides “THAT one”, in no particular order: BIND by Sierra Cartwright (June 9)….TAMING DEX by Zoey Derrick (June 9)…DARE TO ROCK by Carly Phillips (August 4)…MASTER NO by Lexi Blake (August 4)….SERVICING THE TARGET by Cherise Sinclair (July 28)

junepost3ANNA LOVE! I’m obsessed with Anna Kendrick. PITCH PERFECT 2 is really THAT good. As long as I’m on an “I’d pay to make out with Anna Kendrick” tear: THE LAST FIVE YEARS is a movie NOT to be missed. You will laugh, smile, bawl your eyes out. SO good.

daniel3DANIEL LOVE! Yes, I’m also obsessed with Daniel Di Tomasso–and not just because he once took the time to Direct-Tweet back to me (though yeah, I’m still swooning). He’s just THAT talented. And THAT awesome. Binge-watch “Witches of East End” and you’ll be eyeballs-deep in the swoonage with me. Better yet, let’s all make SURE they cast him as Gideon Cross, then there’ll be naked Daniel to swoon over, too.

junepost5RWBY: I owe my daughter for turning me on to this American anime show that features some of the coolest storytelling, especially if you were ever, or still are, a Twi-hard, Potter-head, or fan of martial arts. The initials stand for 4 heroines patterned loosely on fairy tale characters (R = Red Riding Hood, W = Snow White, B = Belle, Y = Goldilocks), and there is that far-away land feel to this, as well. Even for grown-ups, this is a great animated show.

junepost4SAN FRANCISCO: I’m working on a new book based in the City by the Bay, and every shred of research reminds me why it’s one of my favorite places in the world. Even setting an entire book series in the city won’t allow me to do it justice. If you’re on the west coast, don’t pass up the chance to visit–and fall in love with–this incredible, beautiful, romantic, city.

Okay, now YOUR turn to share! What are some of your own guilty pleasures, indulged in Summer or not?

Within the Cocoon of Silence…

7d099184000be060ef270958fc75a4ce

The silence is loud if you’re listening.

… is when the magic comes to life.

There are days when my mind is quiet and others when the words flow with no end in sight. Constant ramblings, snippets of story lines, dialogue, scene ideas, and what have you.

Today, though, has been a hushed day with little to no extra chatter. The normal built-in to-do list is on autopilot with little to no luck of turning it off, but from there, the home front is still. Calm even.

Come to think of it, this entire week has been quiet, with no rush to click open Facebook with some sort of sassy comment or quick words of encouragement I like to share at times. At first, I was worried. Worried because the words were few and I am in the middle of a story. A scary place to have a loss of words.

However, during the stillness of this morning, before the children roused and started their daily weekend activities, something occurred to me. It’s okay NOT to have something to say all the time. It’s okay to give myself the time to turn reflective and let the daily humdrum fade away. You know what I’m talking about? That special ‘you’ time?

What if this is the calm before the storm? The stolen time before all hell breaks loose and I have so much to say there won’t be enough time in the day to get it all out of my head? I crave those days, truly. But what am I to learn when the words slow? Should I force them or take a beat and let the silence speak?

In the last few days I’ve come to realize my muse is sneaky and clever, willing to give me my answers, if I only listen. Letting the thoughts, ideas and words accumulate, marinate if you will, is just as powerful as typing away word after word. I discovered this recently when my muse woke me from a dead sleep and gave me exactly what I needed to continue a scene. Perplexing and mind opening how it took the wee hours of the morning for my mind to be quiet enough to find what I needed.

In just a few hours I begin two long projects that I have no doubt will consume my every thought for the next four months. These projects have weighed on my mind for the last year and a half. My muse knows this and I suspect is preparing for the heavy work load, hoarding the creative energy until it’s time to let it overflow and pour onto the page.

For now I must embrace the quiet, enjoy the stillness, and let my mind harness the creativeness the universe is providing. My muse is smart enough to listen.

I just need to accept the quiet as a gift and sit back, ready for what is to come.

In the mean time, tell me what you do when the silence comes? Do you like to disconnect and relax with a good book? Take to writing in a journal maybe? Something I would love to pick up as a habit, by the way. Or do you just settle in for a good long ‘you’ time?

New Release, Exclusive Excerpt, & Sunday Treats!

Happy Sunday everyone! Today I’m taking the kiddos to the beach for a little sun and play in the sand before the work week kicks off again. I start a new story come Monday and my batteries are running low. Not a good combo so some down time sounds really nice. Before I lather on the sunscreen I wanted to leave everyone with some sweet treats. I hope you’re all having a beautiful weekend filled with friends, family and a fabulous book!

Though Valentines might be over, I don’t think we need a special day to take home a hot alpha shifter or a sexy Marine, right? Last week I released Hexing the Alpha, the first in a brand new werewolf romance series. As promised in my last post, I’m sharing an exclusive excerpt with all the readers here at 69 Shades.

Today is also the last day to pick up the second book in my Sexy Siesta series, Tequila Sunset, while it’s still only 99cents! It goes back to regular price tomorrow!

LAST DAY TO PICK THIS UP FOR $.99!

Hexing Excerpt:

“Tell me you have it ready, Honor,” answered a nervous voice through the earpiece.

Honor’s heart swelled for the woman on the other end. She was so desperate for love she’d try anything. It’s why she’d agreed to help out with the love potion. If only her sisters would see it her way, she could have delivered and collected days ago.

Honor traced the soft edges of a napkin, her back to the crowd forming around the bar. “Hey, Marabelle. The potion is ready. When would you like to meet for delivery?”

Hexing-the-alpha_HMH_TP5x7

What’s a witch to do when her love spell goes wrong and the sexy alpha werewolf of her dreams wants to mate?

“Right now if you can. I don’t want to waste another minute if you know what I mean.”

Honor rolled her eyes and smothered a chuckle at her client’s innuendo. She hoped the poor man on the other end of the spell could handle the lust-filled night Marabelle had in mind for them.

“The sooner the better. How about in an hour? My place? Yours? A la clandestine, I presume?” she added in a low whisper. Humans understood how her Council’s law worked, which helped to explain why the forbidden brew came with a hefty price tag.

Before she could respond, Honor’s magick shimmered the length of her spine and instinct stiffened her muscles. “Your place works fine. See you then, Marabelle.”

Snapping her phone closed, she whirled on her heel, expecting to find one of her sisters. Instead, chiseled muscles defined by outdoor labor and encased in black cotton came into view. She traced a path first down to see solid thighs covered in the sexiest fucking black jeans she’d ever seen on a man and up to find a gorgeous set of dark blue eyes staring down at her.

“Getting into trouble again?” he drawled, his rough baritone doing wicked things to her cool composure.

That was on the outside. On the inside two emotions warred for control. Fear of what he might have overheard with his heightened hearing. And nerve-searing, thigh-clenching lust.

Lust was winning by a mile.

He anchored his hands on two wooden chairs on either side of him and breathed in deeply then released on a long sigh. “Honor.”

Why did he have to say her name as if he’d just made love with her?

Jake—the werewolf shifter that starred in all her fantasies—stood so close she could reach out and touch any part of her fantasy she wished.

He must have sensed the turn her dirty mind had taken because his pupils dilated and the rims of his irises brightened with an otherworldly glow in a color she could only describe as a mixture of sapphire with shards of ruby. The contrast just as striking as the man.

My True Valentine’s Wish…

69post4It was an interesting Valentine’s Day this year.

I guess I was more “aware” of the holiday because of all the foo-ra-ra surrounding Christian Grey’s cinematic debut into the world, a media frenzy that saw the poor man lifted up and lusted over by billions of fans, while simultaneously torn apart by the critics who “just didn’t get it”, in the words of same said fans.

I’m not here to add to the pile any further…but only to say this. I think it’s wonderful that for once, FOR ONCE, the words on everyone’s lips are “sex”, “satisfaction”, and “needs” instead of hype about how many villains the latest Spiderman confronts, or how spectacularly the White House gets dynamited, or how many people got shot, knifed, or blown up in the newest Bond film. (By the way, I mention all of these examples because I’m a diehard fan of anything super hero, political espionage, or James Bond, not to mention a healthy handful of others that make my husband a VERY happy man when it comes to movie date night.)

69post1

But…what the hell is wrong about a healthy discussion, on an international level, about the secret cravings we all have as lovers…and the chance to explore them in a relationship built on trust, honesty, and exploration? This is one of the core reasons I love to write erotic books…and to show them happening with couples who do, indeed, struggle with some of these issues–but also decide together that their love is worth pushing past those issues, and triumphing with sexuality that is more open, beautiful…and sexy.

This Valentine’s Day, I’ve chose to remember that beyond all the hype about this holiday, there is a bigger theme at play. Not just love–but the things that build it to begin with.

Snowmageddon 2015

I love the snow. I really do. In fact, I recently did a post on another blog site about being a transplanted west coaster, and how much I love the east coast seasons.

Yeah, that post was a couple of feet of snow ago. Not foot, feet, and more snow expected tomorrow. I live in the burbs outside of Boston, MA. The big snowfalls usually skirt us, but in two weeks time, we went from record low snowfall to record breaking high snowfall. The trains into Boston actually stopped running yesterday, and will be on an abbreviated schedule today…God only knows what will happen when more snow comes tomorrow. There is literally nowhere left to put it.

IMG_6051

Here is my back deck after one storm dropped 2 feet of snow. That’s our covered grill and a wrought iron table in front of it.

 IMG_6044_2

We had to dig out a spot in front of the garage for the dog to go to the bathroom! Granted, the dog is smaller than most cats, but the blob barely sticking up behind the wall of snow? That’s a car.

IMG_6061-1

Ok, here’s a shot of the same grill and table one week later! Stud has had to climb out onto our roof twice to rake snow, which scares the crap out of both of us, and we had to help our neighbor out of his driveway when he got stuck this morning. It’s still beautiful, but it’s not fun anymore.

Samantha Cayto, Frances Stockton and I are supposed to fly out to San Antonio, TX, for the Wild Wicked Weekend next week. Please keep your fingers crossed that we can get the heck out of Boston. It’s warm in San Antonio, and not a snowflake in sight.

Looking Forward to a New Year + Giveaway

It’s already the last day of the year. Where did the last twelve months go? It’s been one non-stop week after another and I’ve barely had the chance to catch my breath as we all prepare to kick off another year. I think it’s safe to say 2014 has been an interesting year, if not challenging in some ways. I’m grateful for all the opportunities that the time has brought me. I’m optimistic at worse and ecstatic at best for what the coming year has in store for me and my family.

As I look back, this year has brought several positive changes in my life. After five years of working up to the TP BNmoment, I hit publish as an indie author in April. Up until that time I never fathomed the amount of work being an indie author would require and I wouldn’t change a thing!

I moved from a five bedroom/five bathroom house, that took over my life with constant cleaning, to a penthouse condo with four bedrooms and two baths that somehow manages to stay clean despite the four kiddos best efforts to prove otherwise. I started taking Tae Bo Billy classes. Lost twenty-five pounds. Bought my first size eight jeans since giving birth to my third kiddo. (I think every salesperson on the floor heard my scream of delight that day) And now as the year comes to a close, I’m preparing my oldest daughter’s birthday cake (homemade chocolate!), wondering how that tiny baby girl I brought home from the hospital fifteen years ago managed to grow so fast and become such a beautiful young lady.

Changes are inevitable and 2015 is shaping up to have many more positive changes in the works both on a personal level and career wise. All I have to say is I’m ready. Bring it 2015!

I wish you all a wonderful New Year full of opportunities, positive changes, and more of what you desire out of 2015. Here’s our chance at a fresh start. Let’s make it count!

Leave a comment sharing one thing you’re looking forward to in the coming year and I’ll pick one commenter to win a Kindle copy of either Tequila Sunset or Sunrise for Three.

Until next time… keep it sexy!

A Mexican Christmas + Giveaway

Season’s Greetings to everyone! Today is a pretty busy and exciting day. I kicked off my annual Christmas Book Bash on my own personal author blog (tons of giveaways!!), I wrapped up a sexy shifter short story that has a hero I feel absolutely head of heels for and the family is getting ready for our Christmas cookie baking on the weekend.

Lots going on and to keep up with, but that’s what the holidays are about, right? HA I’ll need a vacation after all the merry making! How many are with me?

All the preparations for the holidays had me thinking about the different family traditions around the world. I’ve lived in Mexico for almost twenty years now and I’ve had the privilege to learn about a completely unique way of celebrating Christmas Mexican style.

When we first arrived here I was only fourteen and completely culture shocked for the first year. Christmas was the first holiday we experienced abroad and I had no idea that here in Mexico Christmas actually starts on December 16th and lasts all the way through February 2nd Known as Candelaria or Candle mass day.

posada-home

Posada

To kick off the season there are nine Posadas (which translates to Inn) that children perform to recreate the journey of Joseph and The Virgin Mary looking for shelter. The children will gather in a procession and call on their neighbors, singing a song for each home based on Mary and Joseph’s hardships. It is customary for the children to be turned away with the news of there being no room for them at the Posada they are calling on. Yet they do not turn away and continue singing until they receive the good news that there is room for them. This is performed over the course of eight nights at different homes and ends on Christmas Eve where the nativity scene is recreated with the baby Jesus placed in the manger and at midnight everyone makes their way to Church service where fireworks are kicked off and everyone starts the celebration of Christmas.

Posada

On my first Christmas in Mexico I was invited to join in on the Posada processions with others in my community and it was an experience I’ll never forget. We carried candles and I sang in a language I had yet to master. I was off key the whole time and making it all up as I went, but everyone helped me learn as we went.

We also played games and I got my first turn at a Piñata. I learned real fast how to dive and grab my loot before everyone else got it for me. I am sure many of you have had a chance to play this game and if not, it’s a blast! Your little ones would love to take a turn at this game.

Mexican Piñata

Some traditional food served is the Rosca de Reyes, an oval sweetbread, decorated with candied fruit. In a way it reminds me of our fruit cake. This sweet bread is more a tradition for February 2nd, Candelaria or Candle mass day, where family and friends gather and cut the bread where little white dolls representing the baby Jesus are hidden. The person who finds the doll in their piece of Rosca has to invite everyone present to the following year’s gathering and buy a new dress for the baby Jesus used in the Nativity Scene, and bring tamales, another traditional food made of mashed corn wrapped around meat. And delicious served with Pico de Gallo or homemade hot sauce with tomatoes, jalapeños, cilantro and lemon.

I also found that Christmas trees are not as popular with the older generations. I think this was the biggest culture shock for me. With all the custom trade off with all the tourists, trees have become more and more popular in the new generations, but when I first arrived here and visited friends, they had nativity scenes surrounded by poinsettia flowers which represent the star over Bethlehem that lead the Three Wise Men to baby Jesus instead of trees.

poinsettia-isolated

Poinsettia plants placed throught the city and tons shopping malls, homes, small shops and used in nativity scenes

Though I follow the family traditions my husband and I grew up with, I find the Mexican traditional Christmas a wonderful experience and so steeped with hundreds of years old traditions dating back all the way to the time of the Spaniards.

There is so much more to the culture and the celebrations, but I’d have you hear all day!

How about you? Have you visited another country during the holidays? What did you learn of their traditions? Leave a comment along with your email addy and I’ll pick a winner to receive a Kindle copy of either His by Sunrise or Tequila Sunset, winner’s choice.

Oh, don’t forget to sign up to my newsletter if you haven’t already! It goes out today at 6 p.m. CST with my monthly Gift Card winner AND this edition has a DOUBLE cover reveal. Remember the shifter romance I mentioned above? Be one of the first to see the cover and release date.

I’m also pretty chatty on Facebook and Twitter and please feel free to visit my home on the web. And if you love keeping up releases, flash giveaways, and a whole bunch of other book goodies, grab my FREE App here!

Where Has The Time Gone?

A year ago this month, I was ecstatic to have finished up one historical erotic romance series, and was waiting for two more books to release.

GiftFromFate

Now, I have nothing scheduled that has a firm day, but I do have a re-release coming later this year. I also re-released my first paranormal short story Hardened Desire. But what about writing another historical romance series? Not to worry. That is also in the works. Midnight Blaze, An Impetuous Lord’s novel is still in progress, and I’m still working on Lost in a Lord’s Embrace.

HardenedDesire

As we move into the final stretch of 2014, I thought I would share a few of the things I’ve been working on. I’ve been eagerly working on my sensual Gothic romance for an upcoming pitch session. I’ve also been working on some contemporary pieces as well. Those particular books will be self published, and if you thought Stay With Me was naughty, One Night of Pleasure is an eruption of sexiness waiting to happen.

In addition to all this sensual writing, I’ve taken up creating covers, and freelancing graphic work. Here’s an example of one of my first covers, and it just happens to be one of my indie releases in the Spring of 2015. I do have another, but that one is still very much under wraps.

One Night of Pleasure

Aside from that, I’ve been plugging away at life, and researching my butt off.

My question to you is, what are you reading? Read any new hot and short reads? Leave me your recommendation. I’m on the hunt for some reads that are less than 150 pages.

Should Men Shave It All Off…Down There?

By Em Petrova

Well, should they? Let’s explore this fun topic today. I’m looking for lots of comments on this post, so get those fingers poised!

This is a common subject amongst erotic romance authors and smutters. When talking manscaping, exactly how much is too much?

While lying in bed the other night, staring at my man’s hairy front, I have to admit I did some mental waxing. Yes, it’s true. I’d contour the belly hair a little, trimming it to a perfect love trail. But other than that, I wouldn’t touch him. To me, being all bare might rank up there with carrying a man purse. (Mama likes to nuzzle!)

As an erotic romance author, I look at a lot of…um…inspiration. *wink* It’s impossible not to be influenced by publishing’s vision of the perfect man. After all, romance book covers typically sport shirtless heroes. But have you ever, in all your life, seen a hair? No wonder men feel compelled to shave, right? Women are lounging around devouring these books about hairless men, while our significant others wonder what those images have that they don’t.

In movies, it’s not that often you see a real hairy man chest. I’m sure these actors are subjected to torturous hours on the waxing table. I guess the good thing is they aren’t forced to have all their hair plucked by clam-shell wielding old women like some of the American Indian tribes, where hair was considered unsightly.

Some guys think that shaving their lower parts makes the tool look bigger. But in my opinion, when it comes to grooming the nether-regions, I’ve got one word for you—CACTUS. That’s right, guys. Ain’t no woman willing to take a ride on that.

What are your preferences? I can’t wait to hear your juicy comments!

Whip me, Cane me, Make me write a blog post…and give away an ebook!

It’s been awhile Smut lovers, and for that I’m truly sorry. As it does to most of us on a regular basis, Life keeps getting in the way of my good intentions. However, today I’ve shut the door and braced it with my sofa, so that I can get a post up on 69 Shades of Smut.

2 - Flawless SurrenderSince I last posted a lot has happened, so let me give you the short version. Flawless Surrender – released, Caress of the Wolf – accepted, Weekend Surrender – goes to PRINT, Wild Wicked Weekend – WOOT SO MUCH FUN, Primal Surrender – accepted, Dreams of the Wolf  – goes to PRINT, Caress of the Wolf – scheduled for April 9 and cover received, and I just received my cover for Primal Surrender which is releasing in May. *huge sigh of relief* And while you’re reading this lovely post, I’m on a plane flying back from Las Vegas for a JK Publishing event.4-DOTW-Large

You know, two years ago, when I wrote Fire of the Wolf (The Gray Pack Book 1), I really had no comprehension of what it meant to be a published author. In my mind (as well as in some of yours I’m sure) there was a small cabin in the woods involved, and a quill with ink on a tiny desk next to a special writing chair. There would be tea, and solitude, and lots and lots of time to write……EEEEEHHHHH WRONG!1-FOTW-Large

In all actuality, there is a TON of work that goes along with publishing a book. The writing is the easy part! No lie! Once the book is written and sent to the publisher there is still a lot to do. Creating a cover is my favorite part as it involves getting to share my ideas with someone who loves to create things as much as I do. Look at these two pretties that I have to show off!

The Gray Pack Book 5 Releasing to Siren-Bookstrand April 9! Cover created by Harris Channing.

The Gray Pack Book 5 Releasing to Siren-Bookstrand April 9! Cover created by Harris Channing.

The Surrender Trilogy III Releasing May 2014 to all sites via JK Publishing. Cover created by Jess Buffett.

The Surrender Trilogy III
Releasing May 2014 to all sites via JK Publishing. Cover created by Jess Buffett.

Yeah, they don’t get much better than that. Harris Channing and Jess Buffett both do amazing work! Anyways, other than the cover, there’s also editing, formatting, scheduling, final review, and that’s all before the book releases. On release day, most Authors watch their sales vigilantly, while sharing the link everywhere they possibly can, and thanking the people who share it for them. My favorite thing to do is give shit away on release day. People like winning prizes. I like giving prizes. Win-Win.

I’m also supposed to keep my own blog www.LoriKingBooks.wordpress.com up to date, and so truthfully I’ve slacked in every category except writing. Now it’s time to reintroduce myself and say, I’m sorry for being away, but I’M BAAAAAAAACK!!!!!  *run while you still can*

I hope you’ll take a peek at the books I have out right now: Amazon, and that you’ll let me know which book you’re most looking forward to reading. One lucky commenter will win an ebook from my backlist, so leave me a note along with your email address!

As always, Live, Laugh, and Love like today is your only chance! ~Lori
