In two weeks I will have my first test for purple belt in the martial arts style of Tang Soo Do. As with anything that requires normal vision, this has been a challenge, but the instructor has been very patient and a lot of fun.
The hardest thing for me in this class has been the one steps and sparring. After a certain distance, people disappear from my visual field. We don’t do much sparring, but one steps, where one partner attacks the other and the attackee counters while the attacker remains still- and we perform the moves we’ve learned in class like roundhouse kick, inside/outside block or a punch.
Since starting this class, I’ve lost weight and gained much confidence in the ability to defend myself should the unthinkable happen. Now if there was a way to defend against tripping and falling over obstacles in the middle of sidewalks that would be great. 🙂
Until next time, Indulge Your Inner Desires
